What is this??
I have often wondered what exactly this thing is, it doesn't appear to do anything at all, it just occupies the space between the visors in the middle of the roof.
Other than a couple jokes about it's vague resemblance of a gray plastic boob with a black nipple I haven't gotten much good info from my friends. So I figured I'd ask this well educated group so I might get a better answer than "That looks like your Jeep's boob dude!" Any info is greatly appreciated, thanks in advance.

I didn't think I had keyless entry... But wow, if that's it then it couldn't be more obvious huh? I guess since I don't have a remote for the keyless entry I never thought of that... Thanks man.

The remotes tend to get lost when the vehicle changes owners sometimes. The guy I bought mine from said his wife lost it (she was suffering from Alzheimers and hid things in the house). I guess that was one of them.

Yeah, I didn't receive the remote when I got the truck, it is a bit odd they didn't even mention it was equipped with keyless entry as they were the original owners. But I just did a quick ebay search and found a decent looking replacement fob for about $50.00. I'm gonna pick one up with my next paycheck. I love nice surprises like this! Options I never knew my Jeep had!

Most of those remotes can be found on eBay but the dealers have to program them. There are several which changed from year to year so get the correct one.

This is the one I found. Factory ones are a bit more pricey I've noticed, and not very attractive either. Says its for years 93-96 It also says that it comes with "easy programming instructions" I wonder just how easy they really are, or if they will even work. I suppose I can just take it to the dealer if the do it yourself programming turns out to be crap...

I have this exact "boob" minus the "nipple". There is no black bump. My XJ is a '97. could this be where Jeep switched from IR to RF signals? My jeep has an aftermarket RF keyless entry and alarm so I"m wondering if I can unplug this doodad when I do the overhead console install or does the overhead console come with its own doodad to plug into?
