Both rear tires would rotate the same speed in turns and would cause a tire to chirp or bounce so to speak.

Handling off road would be drastically improved but on the road it would suffer. Your tires will wear a lot faster on the road as well. If it sees street time save your coin for a locker.

Well what would make a real difference in your handling would be welding your ring and pinion gears instead. As for welding your spiders I wouldnt do it if you do more than the occasional drive on the street, it will handle TERRIBLE so dont do it. As for the lockers, just get an Aussie, the Detroit isn't worth the extra money in my opinion.

Maybe I'm reading this wrong but welding the ring and pinion would make the axle unable to spin. If you plan to keep it a long time the Detroit is worth the money, lunchbox lockers like the Aussie and Lock Rite are disposable (they wear out over time due to the design because they rub metal on metal. You will have small shavings in your gear dope every time you change it). But they do last years and don't require setting up backlash.

stock carriers are weaksauce and flex and lead to ring and pinion failure

the detroit eliminates the weak carriers

being that you've had your rear welded for bout a month now, and driving on the streets, how r the tires wearing.

i ask cause i have the opportunity to purchse an 8.8 out of a 93 explorer or navajo, but the spiders are welded...wanna upgrade from my 8.25, but not sure on the route to go , still wanna drive on the streets though to get to my local trails

how's highway driving with it (alot less noticeable)?
