Default welding fron d44

Hello i have a 96 cherokee with waggy d44s on 33s. The rear is welded up and is still holding strong, i was thinking about putting manual locking hubs in it and welding the front gears up. Has anybody done this, how strong would it be, will it last a while? Thanks again

Depends on how good you are with your welder. The manual lockouts will be perfect for this.

I had my front and rear welded on my J20 3/4 ton and with 38's I broke front and rear axles but I also beat the hell out of it. I think if your easy with it on the streets you will be ok...IMO...Tj

I don't know much about the waggy 44. If it doesn't have lockouts now does it just have a factory drive flange or does it have something like the unit bearing assembly? If it has a unit style bearing it might be cheaper to put a locker in it.

I'm looking to do the about the same thing. Spool rear with a detroit up front and 4.88s with 35s. Have a set of grand waggoneer 44s I'm working on stripping down to weld on new brackets.

Welded front is fine, on tight trails I kept one hub unlocked so I could turn easier on my yota and it worked great. Unlock the passenger side so your co-pilot has something to do when it needs locked in for that big mud hole or steep hill climb.

Thanks but those are mini spools I'm looking for a full spool. I'm thing about going with Yukon spool and gears.
