Weird Noises

So when I put my 88 auto into reverse it sometimes grinds and clunks. Any ideas? Has newer rear end and no trany problems. Would u joints cause this?

It could be, yes. You're loading the rear suspension the other way, so deflection in the driveline would be the opposite direction.
It could be the trans or diff, too, since you're using the other side of your ring and pinion, and at least some different parts of the trans, but I'd say u-joints are most likely.
