Default New clunking in 4x4

While tryin to do some trail blazing i put my jeep in 4low and developed a loud clunking sound when letting off the gas. Any ideas yall? My buddy who pretends to know machinics was saying it was a toasted front U joint. Could he be right this time?

Thanks

Jack up the front end and support with stands. Turn the wheels to full lock and rotate the tire looking at the axle shaft u-joint. Chances are the needle bearings have turned to dust. If so, replace & enjoy.
