Default Weird Intake Issue

I used to have a cone shaped air intake filter, then I upgraded to a snorkel (the knock off from the user here on CF, fwiw), and yesterday while on the trail, my intake tubing shredded and I had to go back to my cone shaped filter. Well I used to hear my fuel pump making a loud whining noise when I would use that filter. When I moved to the snorkel, it stopped. But it appears I run hotter with the snorkel. I was overheating on the trail with the snorkel, then after I moved back to the filter, the overheating went away, but the fuel pump noise came back.

Is this just a weird coincidence, or could this all be related?

Cheers

So air intake has nothing to do with the fuel pump or anything? It's just really, really weird the fuel pump noise went away when I switched to the snorkel, but then I started running hotter.

No, your air filter has nothing to do with the fuel pump.

Well not necessarily the filter, but amount/quality of the intake. I just have a hard time believing this is just a coincidence. With the cone filter, the fuel pump made the noise every time I drove. I switched to the snorkel for a month, didn't hear it at all. One the drive home from the trails, after having switched back to the cone, it happens.

Thanks

My cone shape filter sits in the bottom half of the airbox, with the front square part open. When I added the snorkel, I added the top half and an air filter.

ah i see. it sounds like sock knomes to me.. little buggers.

i can see the filters possibly restricting airflow enough to make everything try harder to breathe but the fuel pump? like outlaw said, i cant see any where that the two systems could possibly interfere in that way.. :/

I'm thinking that it maybe the open flow of air though the cone that he is hearing. Dunno?

Well the fuel pump whining noise is loud and obnoxious. With the snorkel on, I hear it, but it's running normal. Just a quiet hum in the back. I have a crappy Airtex, fwiw. My snorkel tubing goes along the inner fender, and up into the engine bay into the airbox. Is that where the resistor is?
