Weird grille problem

I have a 1989 Cherokee Limited. It has a painted grille, and I decided to replace it with chrome.

So I order a chrome grille and headlight bezels through EBay.

Grille went on good. No problems here.

Right bezel looks fine.
Left bezel is missing the part that goes on the top and the side.

Here's the weird part: That black border on the right side-its part of the piece above the grille. So, on the right side its integral with the (header?) and on the left side its naked.

I looked at my original black bezels and sure as shinola, they are different.

What the heck do I do? What do I order to make it right? I am confused beyond belief! HELP!

Thanks for the help. I've been Googling like mad, but I can't come up with any good pictures.

You were sent the wrong part for the one side. I would contact the person you bought them from and see if they can send you the correct part and have them pay for the shipping and if the want the wrong part back have them also pay for the return shipping for that too.

It seems that simple, but it isn't.

If you look closely at the pictures, the panel above the headlamps goes all the way around the right headlamp, but it stops short on the left side.

A different left bezel might fill the gap, but I would still have black above and around the right bezel, and chrome around the right. I guess I could paint the left border black, but I wanted the whole thing chrome on both sides.

I looked into buying a new header panel, but it doesn't come with the strip above the headlights.

Thanks!

OK! You were sent the wrong part. I was just going through a parts book and found this. The one with the extra piece of plastic on the top is for 1997-2001 and the one with the short top is for 1984-1990.
I hope this help you out some. Contact the person or Co. that you bought them from and let them know.

The vendor sent you the correct chrome bezels. They are not supposed to have the extended trim piece on the top for an '89.

My guess is that, at some point in your Jeep's life, someone ordered the wrong bezel for the driver's side, one with the integral trim at the top. Instead of returning it and getting the correct bezel, they cut the full-width metal header piece that goes above the grill and headlights so that the incorrect bezel would fit on the driver's side. The only way to remedy this would be to cut the other side and get bezels from a newer XJ or to order a replacement header that hasn't been cut which will allow you to use the bezels you got off e-bay.

I'm just saying what the parts catalog says and the pictures show the exact same items that he has.
BTW, The catalog that I am referring to is 4WD Hardware. That I received yesterday.

So, with what I have now, a replacement header panel would tidy everything up?

Please do.

And does anyone know for sure if a new header panel includes that strip that seems to be cut short above my left headlamp?
