Doesn't matter wich way you put it on. but if u do put it on then im pretty sure they'll band you from any forum in the world for cherokees. Its for imports and crappy us vehicles. Not well know awsome cars. but hey. its ur car.

It doesn't matter which direction you put it on, either way will work fine. On an S10 4 cylinder get ready cause it's gonna be loud and ricey sounding. But as with any 4cyl engine it's tough to get away from that "rice" sound. I'm not sure why people look down on Cherrybomb glasspacks as much as they do, they sound just fine on certain engines, like the 4.0 for example. As long as the cat remains in place it'll probably sound just fine on your S10 too.

I do not think it matters but I would put the side in the first pic towards the car. Why you ask? Just looks right to me? I never had this problem mine always looked the same on both sides??

Who cares if he is putting a Cherry-Bomb on???? They are not illegal in all places.
To the OP... there actually is a correct way to install one...
Take a look down the tube.. Look at the placement of the holes on the inner sleeve. There should be small perforations that lead into the packing. Inside some of them there are small scoops that will direct the exhaust into the packing. You install them with these scoops facing the engine.
I have one on my 5.2l. Sounds pretty decent on it.. But it didn't sound very good on my 4.0l. Very hollow and tinny.
