Default Waterproof Winches?

Anyone ever drown their winch in the mud/water and have it pull them out successfully? I'd hate to get a winch and the first time I submerge it, it won't be able to pull me out!

If I read correctly, Superwinch prides themselves on their waterproof winches. i dont have one currently but i will be upgrading to the Epi9 when i can squeeze the money out of the wife.

I've never submerged mine. Dont plan to for that matter. If my front bumper is under water, i'm probably sucking in water in my intake and the winch working is the least of my worries. Leave the water for the boats and jet skiis. Jeeps work better on rocks anyways.

all winches are water proof/resistat, At leasrt if they were built in the last 3 decades. The only ones you are giong to find that have trouble with water are earlier than 1970 and even then they would probable work. If you They are made to be very, very tough and not fail as long they arnt keept under water for days. Even then I bet they would still work. I have had my smitty built 8000# under water many, many times and ran it completely submerged I leave mine on the front of my jeep all year long in the elements(as do most people) and it always works.

Interesting story...........My buddy calls me one night a couple years ago at 2 in the morning and said his wrangler is stuck and could I come help him. I was half asleep and said yea. So with out thinking I got in my truck and met him at a gas station that he called me from. By the way, I did this to him a couple of weeks earlier(getting stuck and calling him at 2 in the morning)so I owed him. So I show up and by the look on his face he is pissed. So he gets in and says why didnt you bring your jeep. I ask, well how stuck are you? and he says, You are'nt giong to believe my if I tell you. Just drive where I tell you. So after a couple of miles of following his directions we end up at a the local fishing lake marina. I say where is your jeep? and he points to the water.
What had happend is he got off work at 10:00 and went home and hooked up his new $20,000 triton boat and was going to do a little night fishing. He backed his boat down the ramp and Shut the jeep off and left it in gear and did not put the parking break on. He went to the johny on the spot to drop a deuice and when he came out his jeep and boat were gone. He freaked out for a bit, thinking it was stolen and then heared the bubbling sound.
So he walked to a gas station and called me.
Well, I didnt have my jeep with the winch on it. So(laughing my a$$ off) I told him to go swiming and hook up a recovery strap and I would try to pull him out.
He walks into the water and comes out 2 minuts later with the end of his winck cable. I told him there was no way that it would work but he insisted we try it. So we hook it to my truck. His winch is a real nice warn with a key fob remote. So he goes back into the water to lock his winch and get his keys and he comes out and pushes the button and the line goes stiff.
The next thing I know, up comes a yellow 2001 tj wrangler with a boat trailer and the boat still attached to it. This whole time I totaly forgot about his boat and I was laughing so hard I forgot to ask. I though it had just floated away. I about droped a deuice when that boat caming bobbing up. He pulled the plug at home and did'nt put it back in yet.

hahah oh my that sounds like something I would do...I'm happy that the winches are really as tough as they make them out to be...

as for the comments about jeeps being only rock crawlers...I'd rather have a mud turd thrown at me then a rock breaking through the side of my door!
