Default Water in rear cargo and floor boards

I have a 1990 XJ, the carpet in the cargo area gets wet when it rains. Also found about an inch of water underneath the back seat. Floor boards are not rusted/rotted. I cannot find where the leak is coming from. Has anyone else run into this problem?

I checked, other than a wet floor there is no sign of water leaking, maybe its coming from behind the panels? The hinges seem to be fine.

my jeep has the same problem... wet back and water under my back seat.. no rust.. i found that my weatherstripping for the rear door ( trunk ish) was all torn apart... i got a 25 foot roll from jcwhittney and i havent installed it yet.. but that might do the trick..
post if you find a solution

I guess this is a common problem then. The rhino lining is a good idea! Everyone keeps telling to do that. My rear seal is fine. The jeep stinks like hell though. Carpets got to go.

For now i removed the roof rack compleatly and just cut 1 inch squares from some 3Mplastic tape and covered all the holes in the roof. and that stoped my leak in the rear. i am in the process of trying to find the new gromments (they are also the mounting nuts) as you tighten them the grommets get squshed and seal the hole. i found them on ebay for the 1974-1991 grand wagoneers but not for the 84 and up cherokees. i still have not checked with my mopar parts department at my local dealership cause they are never open when i go home. im trying to find them on line but no luck yet. if anyone knowes where i can get them it would be a great help to me.

Pull the carpet up and look at the floor. They tend to rust out between the gas tank and floor. you cant see it without pulling up the carpet.

firts tr pulling up on the roof rack main rails if you can lift them up a little then they are bad and most likley leaking. or get a torx socket set and remove each side rail and inspect the grommets underneeth if they are ripped cracked or hard then they dried out and should be replaced .
