Default Water Pumps and their flow. Help please.

Ok, have a 92 Cherokee that almost has a brand new cooling system. This is why dad parked it four years ago. It immediately gets hot in about five minutes (coolant). The only thing that has not been replaced is the water pump that was put on four years ago when the overheating began. I have replaced:

The radiator
Fan clutch
2 rad Hoses
Thermostat
sensor for gauge
coolant sensor in the tstat cover (really grimy inside that area and yes I cleaned it).
the aux fan does not kick on, but even wiring it direct does not cool. Yes the fan operates when hooked to battery.

I have read in my research that there are two water pumps that flow differently, reverse flow and standard. I am wondering if the wrong one was put on four years ago. It's the last component. The other possibility is the head has serious crud in it. How do I tell what the correct water pump is for my 4.0 HO engine? The gauge is reading way past 260 if I let it. I don't let it run. Oil appears very clean, no white steam thru exhaust and no milky substance on the oil fill cap. Any recommendations would be helpful. Dad got her brand new and took really good care of it until this happened. If he had the money when this did happen it would be fine today. Just to give you an example all the tranny/ diff fluids have been changed three times with full synthetic product in her 132,000 miles. Any thoughts would be appreciated. This girl is very important to me.

Thanks again,
Nathan

A new water pump is like $30, why not just buy one & slap it on?

I'm going to, just want to make sure it is the correct one.

I don't find a reverse rotation part number listed for a 1992 4.0.

After you get it running again, watch for unexplained coolant loss over time.

When the motor is cold, does the gauge go to 260 in 5 minutes? If so, I'd suspect a whacked gauge, bad ground, bad electrical connection. Do u have access to a infrared temp gun to verify temp?

First things first, get yourself a real temp guage. It's good to have for everyday use too.

Yes I will check. The first gauge sensor was bad, this one does rise smooth but still pegs itself

Shipping is higher to Oman.

Gas is cheap, though.
