water pump seized up today on the XJ

Fun time today coming home from work. The jeep started overheating and the GEN light came on. Pulled off and found Antifreeze pouring out. The water pump pulley was crooked and wouldn't move. Plus the serpentine belt had come off and wrapped itself around the fan. Joy!!

How hard is it to change out the water pump? Should I go ahead and change the thermostat too? Thanks everyone!

That sounds like a lot of fun, not sure exactly how much different the "older" cherokees are from 99 ( cant imagine its much) but it wasnt too hard on mine...and yes i would do the thermostat too, its cheap and youre right there anyways

i had to change one on my old jeep. we removed the power steering pump, the aux fan and that was enough room to squeeze in there. and yes replace the thermostat its only like ten bucks and takes five mintues to replace.
