Default Water pump issue

My sister has 2000 XJ, although shes not on here, and asked me to post in her honor. She is having a recurring problem. She has installed 3 water pumps over the last 12 months. The problem she expierences is overheating due to no fins on the pump. Granted she gets them from Pep Boys, but they have a lifetime guarantee. I have included a picture below. I do appreciate your thoughts and sorry if your experiancing the same problem.

Not exactly a lot of info to work with.

Are the fins corroding? If so ... she needs a full flush of the entire cooling system.

Are the fins wearing away? If so ... check the outside of the #1 cylinder walls. Should see contact marks. Assuming you do ... it's either the wrong pump or it needs a 2nd gasket. I recall the 00 and newer 4.0 engines to have different vanes (more of them and plastic construction). So my first guess is they keep selling her the wrong water pump.

Are you impatient? If so .... you need to learn some. Not a lot of people are going to be here on a Sat night, leading into a Sunday morning. It's not like your post got bumped off the first page.

And there is a specific note that you need to double up on the gaskets for that pump

they last about 4 months, and I got bumped to the third page. It was part matched when it was first replaced. It was done correctly and there is no note to double up on gaskets.

The picture isn't the clearest, but it looks to me like the impeller doesn't have any vanes on it, as though they were somehow worn off? Maybe Pep Boys just got a batch of crappy reman WPs. Maybe a dealer WP might be the answer. Just a thought, but is the serpentine belt being installed correctly? If not, it would cause the WP to turn in the wrong direction thus causing all kinds of problems including overheating.

welcome to CF first off. Please explain to me how, on Gods green earth, would the serp belt have to be installed to cause the H2O pump to rotate the wrong way? I may not be as mechaincly inclined as I think I am to not be able to grasp this concept.

there has to be something else causing this. if the coolant mix is off and the engine grounds are not correct you will get electrolosis. this will corrodes anything in the cooling system.
