Wandering wheels, can't find the problem.
Bought a 99 xj yesterday for 1500 bucks under the assumption that the only thing wrong with it was a bad u joint. It has 320k km on it and the engine was rebuilt 100k km ago
So getting about 20 miles into after buying it, the check engine light came on. So I took it to a mechanic, they told me all my brakes and calipers need to be changed, no boggy, easy to do.
But for the life of me Icant figure out what's causing the wandering and wobble. I'm going to get new u joints for both front axles. I don't know if there would he anything else that would fix it.

Ball joints, Tie rods, Track bar, Tires, Steering stabilizer, pretty much in that order. if you are doing the U-joints you are already doing half the labor to get to the Ball joints.

Yeah. Plan on the whole shebang when you do one. You only have to pay for an alignment once. Might include tie rods.

with that many miles, i would be inspecting the frame right around the area where the steering box bolts through. they are prone to cracking there.
you may need someone inside the jeep turning the steering wheel back and forth while you look closely along both inside and outside frame rails.
it wouldn't hurt to do what the others had mentioned, even if they look ok. unless they obviously look new.
