Check engine light

Default Check engine light

Check engine light came on the 03 WJ. 68,000 miles. Code reader says its the EVAP system. Anybody else had this code come up?

I had an Evap code come up on my XJ. It was a bad gas cap causing an evap leak.

Yeah, my engine light is off and on all the time with that for a little over a year now. If you are confidant that it is ONLY an evap problem your options are:
1) Ignore it, as it is not really something that will negatively effect your vehicle.
2) Trace the problem and replace parts.
-Start with a new gas cap. Cheapest and easiest thing to do first.
If that doesn't do it, then you could be in for a long search for the cause of the problem. could be one or more of the check valves, solenoids, sensors, etc..in the system. I know some places use a smoke machine to try and trace leaks in the system, or the dealers have special set of tools to diagnose evap problems.
