Default Waggy Axle Questions

So I have gotten the idea to do an axle swap in the rear for a 44. I hear a lot of talk about XJs with "Waggy" 44s. Are people referring to the XJ Waggy or the Grand? if it is the Grand, how much modification to the perches and shock mounts is needed to make it fit? Any recommendations or advice for the swap would be appreciated.

xj waggy's from 87 and 88 have a 44 that's a bolt in. The grands have an aluminuim 44 I don't think there very good.

The grand has a 44a which isnt a bad axle but the downfall is that the aftermarket locker selection is very limited.

I do believe that when the OP refers to "grand" he is referring to a Grand Wagoneer, which was a full size jeep that did have D44s.

If that is in fact what he was referring to, then yes they will fit, but only after welding on new spring perches, etc, etc. They are also wider than the XJ and ZJ axles.

yeah, i guess i forgot to specify. i was talking about the FSJ waggy. I had one on high school before I was really into Jeeps. I wish i still had it.

So what I am hearing is that i should look for the XJ waggy axles and skip the FSJ?

No there arent any true 44 bolt on fronts out there. You could go with a TJ rubi 44 but that still isnt a true 44. Unless you are running over 35" tires I would just stick with the d30.

I did not think there was one, but I had to ask!! I have been toying with the idea of picking up the TJ D44. It will cost me $700-$800 for the locker for my D30, then another $250 for set up! I have seen TJ D44s with any ratio and a selectable locker for around $1700-$2000. I have a hard time getting past the fact that it does not cost that much more and I get a lot more strength. I really don't know if it is worth it!! My long term goal is 37" tires and about 8-9n inches of long arm lift. Did I mention that this is a LONG-TERM GOAL!!! This **** is not CHEAP!!!!
