Voltage guage dropped to zero.
I was driving my Cherokee last night and the voltage guage droppped to zero, but the vehicle kept running. After I got to my destination, I stopped and restarted it and the voltage went back to normal. Can the vehicle even operate if there is zero voltage? I though it might be the guage as it was a cold night.
You are either driving off your battery or your alt.
Check your alt by starting the jeep and taking the pos side off the battery if it quits then you need a new alt if not then your alt is good and it might be just a malfunction.

If it was at zero and you were able to start it this morning I would say that your guage malfunctioned. But you can either test it by using a volt meter it should read about 13.5 volts, with car off it should be about 12.6.
