Default VIN number

MY XJ and I are in Bali and the vin number I can find is MHSFN431S etc.
The 17 characters are there but I can't find out on every forum what the meaning of my VIN is. Can someone help me out? Need the year of the vehicle and the engine to be sure I order the right parts in the US.
My XJ has a strange sequence from to start when cold (What is cold in Bali) First start only. The CEL is off for a while and approximately 2 to 3 minutes after having switched on the contact by the key I start hearing the fuel pump to run and hear all kind of relays switching on and off.
Is this a ground issue or a control unit issue?

Not just for the part numbers.http://www.xjjeeps.com/ And it is FREE. In the beginning of it, It explains the VIN number. Download a copy for Reference purposes.

Thanks for the link. Interesting site. didn't find this one yet! I am however stil confused in the VIN nr I have in my Jeep. Have to find out what is Briarwood, but am rather sure now that the XJ is from year 1995.
Somebody knows how to verify the same on the engine. The number I can find stamped in is N2K 909825

try contacting jeep for your build sheet to get what your jeep was built with.

I come up with 1996 as a year. Good idea on contacting Jeep for a build sheet BTW.

Already send email to chrysler to get the build sheet.

Anyone knows what could be wrong when the fuel pump does not goes on as soon as i turn the ignition key? Have to wait approx 2 minutes before the cel goes on and hear the pump building up pressure.

Great info for getting the build sheet! Thanks! Now I can finally find out once and for all if my 96 (with an August build date) has a 27 or 29 spline in it's 8.25!

EDIT: Oh wait, I see they don't give that level of info. Blah. Guess I gotta yank the axle and count the splines after all. And that's why I haven't found out yet...

Is your fuel pump getting 12 V from the time the key is turned to "start"? If so the lag could just be from a tired fuel pump.
