vibration at 50mph. Transfer Case shot?
I installed my lift (RE 3.5" SF) over 12K ago and went with a TC drop. A few days ago, I noticed a small vibration that only happens at 50mph. Small vibration can be felt through the shifter. I checked the U-joint for play. they seem to be fine, but I get a bit of play when I twist the shaft drive back and forth. Pretty sure its normal on jeeps. And a very slight play if I move the output shaft from the transfer case up & down. Any idea on what it could be? I was already planning on doing the SYE in the next few weeks with the front drive shaft to save a few bucks since it's ony a mall crawler.

Remove the FRONT DS and give it a run on the highway with out it. Might be time to rebuild the front DS. My '92 AND my '99 were starting to get odd vibes on the highway. I pulled the front DS and it was smooth. Had the local driveline shop rebuild my fronts for $80 each. Smooooth again.
Try that first. Just need a 5/16 1/4drive socket and wrench to remove the front DS.
Yes, a SYE using the front DS. Thats what Im using.

Ok
Step 1. Remove your REAR driveshaft after doing your lift.
Step 2. Order THIS flange if you have a NP231 Tcase. 242 is different.
Step 3. Install this flange on the REAR OUTPUT of the Tcase as explained in it's instructions.
Step 4. Bolt a FRONT driveshaft to this flange and to the REAR end. Front DS is on the bottom of the pic.
A Cherokee FRONT DS has a cool Double Cardon joint that allows it to flex ALOT more. And with the "slip joint" at the BOTTOM of the shaft not instead of at the TOP, the pressure is off of the tcase tailcone and seals.
This is a VERY common modification. Google for Cherokee SYE. Its pretty slick.
Finished install.. NOT MINE tho.. Just an example.
