Default Vibrating at idle when in drive

I recently purchased a 2000 Jeep Cherokee Sport 4.0. I have seen other posts about vibration when in drive but the ones i've read make it sound like it's coming from up front. When idling in drive (stop light, stop sign etc.) there is a rattle coming from the back. It sounds like it's coming directly under the trunk space/above the gas tank. There is no vibration when the car is moving. I did a visual under the car while i had my friend put it in drive and I didnt notice any muffler shaking or anything else that was noticeably shaking. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

So only in drive, it doesn't do it in neutral or park?

Sounds like its the exhaust.

Maybe check again. Also check the heat shield for the gas tank and your tranny mount.

This happened to me when my rear passenger side shock absorber broke loose. It lodged itself between the body and muffler and would cause a really loud rattle when stopped in drive, but not in park or neutral.

I'm curious if you ever had this issue resolved. I too and having the same exact issue. Exhaust isnt vibrating and it sounds like its coming from the gas tank. Only occurs on low idle.

Make sure the rearmost bracket on the exhast pipe is tight. CHECK it with tools. Don't just look at it.

I have this very same issue with my 2000 XJ. Only has 95,000 miles and is all stock. I've only had it a month.

Not very helpful. I wouldn't have posted if those had solved it.

So you actually looked and inspected your Jeep for those issues?

Yes. Nothing around the exhaust is loose. It seems to be worse when the A/C compressor kicks on.

Look at your motor mounts and trans mount then.

My thoughts from the beginning.

OP I assume this happens in any gear if you hold your foot on the brake? When stopped and in gear the engine is under a lot of strain pumping the torque converter around with a ton of resistance.
