hey everyone. ok so here is my problem. my 96 Cherokee Sport's e.c.m. busted up. the jeep dealer here in Namibia(which is in Africa, for those who dont know) wants to charge me about US$2,772 bucks to replace it, which is sick. because i can get one for US$250 bucks in the States. but now i was just chatting online with Auto Computers Exchange, and guy i was talking to said he cannot help me since my car is from another country, although the service was FANTASTIC. im now stuck with no ecm. i really need some advice now. firstly, where else can i buy PRE PROGRAMMED ecm's from in the states that will help some bloke sittin on the other side of the atlantic ocean? secondly, will anyone be willing to help me find out how much its gonna cost to DHL or Express USPS it here? the location is Windhoek Namibia it needs to be shipped to if i can find one. thanks a million for anyone willing to help.

 

Can you call the local place and ask how much it would be to program a replacement? If it is cheap then you could probably get one from ACE and have it programmed locally. ACE uses your Vehicle Identification Number to do the programming, and I guess it would be very different than a South African number.

thanks ill check out those links. yeah, that was the reason i wanted to go with ACE. because the guys here are being difficult if i dont buy it from them but im going to go see the head mechanic or manager tomorrow if i can. ill let you guys know what happens asap.

 

and the place dosnt need to ship internationally. i have friends whose parents will ship it to me so i just need to find an ecm thats programmed and can program it to my vin and for a 4litre. and does the fact that mine is right hand drive play a role in that an ecm might not work?

Here's a list of OEM part numbers for the PCM/ECU in the '96 Cherokee:

You'll notice that there are separate numbers for European models.
I don't know if this refers to Right Hand Drive or not.

could you tell me what 56041251 is? is it unleaded fuel?

 

I can't find that number in the parts catalogs for any year, nor can I find 56041252, which you posted as your ECM number in another thread. I'm thinking that maybe international Jeeps use totally different parts numbers than in the USA.

RockAuto lists a STANDARD MOTOR PRODUCTS Part # EM3404U, which cross-references the following numbers:
The 56041199 is listed in my previous post as unleaded fuel, so the 56041251 most likely is, as well.

 

alright, we've now ordered a 251 which was the closet to a 252 i could find, it looks EXACTLY the same, and it is also for a 1996, 4.0, automatic. so im just waiting on getting my new set of indicators to the people who are USPS-ing it to me so they can throw those in the box too, and then we'll find out. the guys i bought it from do take returns if i bought the wrong part and return it in the same condition. so i'm Praying we'll be good to go when it gets here. i went to the dealer and he could not an ecm in his system either, but he wasnt tryin very hard either and he told me if he gets me one it'll be around 20k NAD(Namibia Dollar) which is US$ 2,995.10, how ridiculous. the one on ebay with the international shipping to Namibia is only 152.99 plus around 60 for the express USPS flatrate box. . so i cant wait to get that new(remanufactured) one! oh and it also has a lifetime warranty. talk again when i get it.
