Very Loud Engine Whine
Hey guys! I'm back here with another problem. Lately, my engine has taken to whining really really piercingly a few minutes after start-up. The sound disappears when the gas pedal is pushed, but reappears when you let off again. It's been drawing unwanted attention because it is very audible outside the car.
Also I don't know if it's related, but I'll be checking my coolant every day, and it's at the exact same level every day, but then one day it will just completely vanish.
The engine whine has progressively gotten louder the longer I've had this car.
I have a '94 Jeep Cherokee Sport.
I took a picture of the area in which the sound is coming from:

Here is a recording of the sound my engine is making. It almost sounds like it's coming from the engine block, but I'm not sure. It's not coming from that big tube thing (whatever its called) for sure.

I'm really trying to figure out what the problem is, so if you have have any ideas, that would be awesome!

Squeal and then loss of coolant... how does your waterpump look? Have you taken the belt off and check for play in the shaft?
Also sounds like you need to put oil in it

X2! /\. I'd change the oil & filter first. Sounds like a diesel! That whistle sounds like a vacuum leak to me. If you can't find it with your finger or wiggling something maybe use a section of hose to your ear to isolate it.

It's a steady whistle/whine. Almost sounds like a blower on a piece of heavy equipment. High pitch, almost as high as feedback from audio equipment.
OP, if it gets louder letting the throttle up, decelerating its all but certainly a vacuum leak.
