Default Valve Cover Swap - Plastic to Metal

Hey all,

I have a 1984 Cherokee with the 2.5. The stock plastic valve cover is cracked in several places and leaking badly. I have heard that many people swap over to the newer aluminum valve cover from the later XJ/YJ Jeeps. However, I have had a look at a newer aluminum valve cover, but the slanted portion at the front looks like it would contact the lifters. Is this true? Does anyone have any pics or info on this? My jeep is kinda beached until I get this fixed so any help would be much appreciated. (The top picture is what my current lid looks like. The bottom picture is an aluminum cover. The slanted part is on the left side of the aluminum piece.) Thanks!

Should be alright? If you're sure it will fit, I'll give it a go. I just don't want to buy this thing and find out it's kissing my lifters.

my 93 xj has the same slant but on my 4.0 valve cover and I have no problems with lifter contact.

Thanks, guys. I ordered the aluminum one and will post pics when it's (hopefully) installed.

Got the "new" valve cover in today and it test fitted pretty well. Doesn't look like it touches the lifters. It's marginally taller than the plastic cover so we shall see. It also uses a different gasket than the original so I'll have to grab one of those tonight before final fitment. I'll post pictures later on.
