Last year I put the engine in my XJ from a donor that had sat for 10 years.
I replaced the valve cover gasket and cleaned the little orifice too.
Well I noticed over the last few weeks I was starting to see a little oil under the
XJ on the lot at work.
Well I looked and seen a little drip here and there and I planned on changing the
oil last weekend and got busy and didn't get it done till today.
Oil was everywhere, front to back etc.
So I changed the oil and though I couldn't actually see it leaking from the valve
cover gasket, I decided to check the bolts. When I pulled the valve cover last year I noticed that the bolts didn't seem tight.
Well history repeats itself, they was loose again.
So if you do your own work and even if you don't its easy todo, just check your valve cover bolts are tight. Might save you hassle later......

 

Always sage advise to double check over your work a week or two down the road.. Bummer ya found out he hard way..

 

No bummer.. Just messy hah.
Just retorque and go on, something to watch even you never had the cover off.

 

I just got a cheap torque wrench for this reason... Glad it was just a mess and not a disaster!
