Default Valve Cover Grommet and Air Hose Question

The plastic elbow going into the valve cover grommet from the air filter hose was broke when the tree fell on the hood.

My question is, what is the "official" name of this piece as I can't find it to order online AND can it be replaced without taking the valve cover off?

Here's the piece in question:

Thanks!

Thanks for the info. The grommet is a PCV right? What about the elbow piece?

I don't know about the newer Jeeps, but on mine that grommet just twists like 90 degrees then pulls out. Replacing it would take all of 30 seconds.

That would be nice. I'll try it this afternoon.

Mine was broken as well. I yanked it and the grommet out, bought a "help" grommet to pop into the cover and slapped on an after market oil breather instead. (as far as I know all the original piece does is suck air in from the intake box.) This isperfectly acceptable where I live, because in Bend we have no DEQ. Plus now I have some shiny chrome...to get covered in oil from my other problems.

Awesome, looks like an easier way to fix it and the breathers are easily available locally. Thanks a bunch.

On your 2000 it is referred to as a Crankcase Ventilation System. It works like a PCV system but uses a metered orifice instead of a PCV valve. That orifice meters the amount of vapors drawn out of your crankcase. The manifold vacuum helps to draw it out through the air box and burn the nasties during combustion.
Why don't you check the price on the grommet and put it back the way it was originally engineered?
