Default Valve Cover Gasket Replacement

Hey guys, I'm going to be replacing my valve cover gasket this week and was wondering if I should be checking anything in the head while I have the cover off?

resqman911,

If you want to communicate on the forum it is highly recommended that you complete your profile, to include the year of your Cherokee, engine, transmission, etc. Or at least include this data in your post. THanks.

What year is your Cherokee? What engine do you have.

The reason I ask is that the 2000 and 2001 XJ's 4.0 engine heads have a problem with cracking. If this is you, you may want to check for a crack in the head. Otherwise, eyeball your valve spings for cracks or being broken (long shot). Others will jump in with suggestions I'm sure.

Sorry about that. Updated my profile with what I knew off hand.

1998 with 4.0.

Jeep runs good I just figured since I'm going to be removing the valve cover I should ask if there is any preventive maintenance I need to do.

You could check the torque on all your rocker arms and tighten to spec if needed.
