Default Valve Cover Gasket?

2000 keep Cherokee 4.0L I-6. My valve cover gasket is leaking. My question is should I replace it with a standard rubber gasket or RTV silicone?

I like the steel core re-useable gaskets. If you're in and out of there twice, it pays for itself.

Went will the FelPro on my '00. Was doing a 4 hole injector upgrade and figured I was halfway there. Kinda didn't really need it but.....

Don't just silicone it. Get a decent gasket. The Fel-Pro has tons of good reviews.

These are well worth the cost and high quality, mine are FelPro. Never use RTV silicone on a valve cover.

And you can find them for under $30 if you hunt a little.

Felpro or bust.

Mine has not leaked a drop in the 30K miles it has been in there. Plus its re-usable (Silicone over a metal frame I think). Great quality.

Default Gasket selection

I went with a quark gasket with black RTV from NAPA. Worked just fine.

And make sure your valve cover is straight and not warped,If its not straight its gonna leak no matter what gasket you use.

Cork.

If it does leak again, getting off all of that old RTV is a pain in the ****. Why not do it right the first time.

I ran these on my race cars with full roller motors and I had to run the valves every week with these they held up for a full season of racing and still never leaked a drop. Only replaced just to be on the safe side and reused them with less critical engines 2 are still in use on SBC trucks around here.
