I just pushed the vacuum hose up and into the engine bay. I put my vaccum bottle between the passenger side fender well and the firewall. The existing hose was long enough and everything. It fits right there perfectly. I don't even have it fastened down. I rolled my XJ onto it's side a couple of weekends ago and the vac. bottle never budged.

I relocated
I did the same as above, but my vac canister is jammed between the relay box and the fenderwall. Its is not bolted down either, and I have never had a problem. I am guessing I could have shortened the hose, but whatever. Just find a place to jam it and be done!

Every year XJ has a different layout in the engine bay.
Some years there is room on pass side, other's there is no room.
Instead of CRAMMING/ SHOE-HORNING/ MASHING it into an already cramped engine bay...
Mount it in front of the harmonic balancer.
A small plate of metal with two mounting screws (stainless steel of course) to the lower lip of the radiator support.
A foot of extra vacuum hose and its "out of sight - out of mind"

Howler that seems the best location yet. Mine is ziptied to a brace since I have a different bumper but the location depicted in your photo does seem a much better solution. You could even tack weld the plate in place to increase the chance of it staying put and smoothing out the lower radiator support.

Here is another option. Make one out of PVC pipe caped off at both ends with a barb fitting that is any shape you want.
