Default Use of extra lights (on roof rack, etc.)?

I noticed a lot of 4-wheelers have extra lights, either roof-mounted or otherwise.

This is what I'm talking about (not mine):

Is there any practical application of so many lights, preferably a first-hand example of when they were used?

Any wheeling applications?

Alright those are going way low on my to-do list. I want to get this lift, my disconnects, and other sich out of the way first.

If I can find a budget kit, I might get around to it sooner.
Note: as a high school punk, $40/wk isn't much to move on when i'm saving up my checks.

If you've ever been in the desert at night, auxiliary lighting is a MUST... Especially if you are traveling quickly.

It is dark when I leave for work and dark when I return home. Living in the country it is a benefit to having all the extra light you can. Even if they are cheap lights as long as they prevent me from hitting a deer/cow that is all that matters. I plan on putting a cheap set on my bumper with them facing slightly outward to light of the ditches and fields on each side of the road. Ultimately I would like to put 4 forward facing lights... 2 for "deer finders" and 2 for long range straight ahead.

IMHO - Supplemental lighting can be extremely helpful both on/off road. My pencil beams have prevented me from hitting deer numerous times. Combine them with wide angle clear fogs and I have a far greater chance of seeing deer, children etc off the road, but may present a hazard as I approach. Amber fogs can be a big help in heavy snow storms, etc.

With the above said, judgment (and sometimes restraint) is needed to decide when supplemental lighting can be used. I have only once hit an oncoming vehicle with any of my forward supplemental lighting beyond the polite high beam flash. In this case it was an H2 running a light bar with quad 55 watt whatevers. I politely flashed my highbeams two which he turned on his remaining OE tiny driving lights. I responded with the below.

Pair Sylvania 1010 HID's
Pair Hella 4000's
Pair Catz Landmaster twimbeams (drive mode)
Pair Catz SR 5 pencils upgraded to 85 watts
Standard 65 watt halogen high beams that work in conjuction with my Sylvania 6054 HID low beams.

He was still resistant to acting responsibly , so I flipped my final forward running switch. This added a pair of LightForce 240 HID's.

Lets just say the problem was quickly solved , before the 240's even had a chance to warm up to full output .

Lights can be a big help, but I'm firm believe they should not be used with oncoming traffic or even if you are behind traffic going your same direction unless well beyond your beams active reflective points.

i am running 3 pairs of hellas and love every bit of them. also saved me from hitting numerous deer at night. These things make it look like daylight outside and are also nice for the occasional tailgater!!

Alright, thanks guys. I'm thinking two mounted on my bumper (IDK how I'm gonna cut through my bumper, or if I should find somewhere else to mount. It's about 3/8" steel, lifetime guarantee not to bend.) And four on the safari rack I'm getting made. That should be good...
