Default Urgent please - headlights

Hi all,

It is my first post and I am new owner of 93 4.0L.

My big problem is that headlights are week (dim).
I checked lens and it is in perfect condition. Bulb itself has low (yelowish ) color. Got new ones and still the same.

Please advise

Regards

They do much better if you get a headlight upgrade with relays that give your bulbs a full 12V straight from the battery. Several companies have them. Shop around.

No problem I did this upgrade to mine a few months back while upgrading the cooling system. My lights are much brighter now. I did a second upgrade to Hellas and a replaceable bulb, which is a second thing you can do after the wiring/relay upgrade.

http://www.eautoworks.com/product-eA...com-189849.htm

They sell the harness for $18.99 with 10 bux shipping. It's the cheapest I have found on the 'Net on the past few days of searching. I went ahead and built my own 4 relay one with some relays I pulled at the junkyard for a few bux though.

Works great. Ordered my AutoPal E-Code 55/100s and they should be here in a few days. (hopefully).

Noticed a HUGE improvement with my Silverstars after I did the harness yesterday. Its actually WHITE now!

Just gotta finish my install. Gotta wrap the wires into looms and such. fun fun

Should you choose to go the Do-it-yourself approach, here is Go-Jeep's write up on making your own upgraded headlight wiring looms...

You should have a 3 wire socket on each headlight. One wire is low beam, one high beam, the other is a ground. Sounds like a bad ground. Check each wire with a test light. Two should have juice. Low and then high when you hit the dimmer switch. Run a seperate ground to the socket (third wire). The lights should be bright as when new if using stock headlights, without running new harnesses or realys.

It's all according to how much you want to spend. Lets see. Repair Ground $000.00, change harness and switch to different headlights $??????. No brainer. Just a cheaper suggestion.

I purchased sylvania silverstars($19.99/ea) and my lights are whiter(with stock wiring) than every other car out there(except HID's) I actually have people flash their brights at me thinking that I have my brights on. I then flash back

where did you get these for $19.99/ea? I really want/need these brighter lights. I just want to get the right ones.

thanks

thanks
autozone has to special order them in(maybe 1 day wait)
I purchased mine at checkers/shucks/kragen, and they had 2 on the shelf.

the sylvania part # is H6054ST. they have ones that are "cool blue" as well but i'm not spending $50 ea. I will wait until i can do a HID look-a-like conversion.

NOTE: if you think your lights suck and you don't wash your car often(it's a jeep i assume nobody does) wipe your headlights off w/ the window cleaner at the gas station. A little clean goes a long ways.

found this site does a complete hid Sealed beam conversion http://www.hidadvantage.com/sealed-b...rsion-sets.php
but it's definitely a little pricey but it includes all the stuff you need to convert over your lights including the new H4 housings. Depends on what you want to spend Silverstars are pretty good too either way aiming your lights will go a long way towards not being flashed
