Default upper ball joint is NOT an interference fit in D30

The title says it in short, the upper ball joint is not a tight interference fit within the D30 housing ends that retain the knuckle, allowing the ball joint to move up & down slightly

The problem seems to D30 hole being oversize, as I swapped the ball joint with another used one which I had to press out of its housing, but it went into my axle housing just by tapping it down

For the time being, I placed 2 washers between the knuckle arm and retaining nut, and this seems to have limited the amount of movement from previously about 3/16" to about 1/32"

This can be observed where the shoulder of the ball joint raised up from the top of the D30 C arm

I checked the archives, and I see knurled ball joints mentioned

Is this the only way forward for me ?

I will monitor the situation, seems ok for the time being, but it can obviously never get better

I just had to change entire axle housings, so this is a bit of an annoyance

It is not at all sloppy, just not an interference press fit, like it should be

I would consider a few tack welds if youse advise me, just little easily ground away little jobbies, might stop it moving up & down, which can only lead to a more wear, they would be ball joint shoulder to D30arm top

Oversized "problem solver" ball joints might be the answer

So would this item be the best solution?

I do not know if the OD of the splined area is slightly over sized to take up any wear on the axle cup

I do have inside & outside mics to check

ok Gents,

a .005" oversize version of the above part is winging its way to Australia from Rock Auto

I am guessing mine has an ~ .001" interference fit at most, its not at all sloppy, but it can move up & down within the cup under the force of road use, which is is limited to ~1/8", but that cannot be acceptable to me, as not only will it wear the cup bore out over time, but I reckon it would also affect the accuracy of that wheels steering
