Default upgrading intake manifold on 96 xj

Hi again,
I have been trying to research and read on the upgrade to the newer intake manifolds and am seeing that they changed the design in 96. I am wondering if that is on the grand c and the regular c. Most of the write ups are on pre-96 jeeps so I am just wondering if all the same things apply. If anyone has some more links to writeups or any useful information it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Lee

Here's an article stating a 5HP loss on the dyno when installed on a '98.

Keep in mind though that was on a well used Jeep with over 200,000 miles on it. Maybe an engine in better condition would show better results (I hope, since I'm putting one on mine!)

The OP asked for a link.....so far there's been only one provided. One has to presume (regardless of how many miles on the motor) that a baseline dyno was run, then another dyno was run immediately after the intakes were swapped and 5HP was lost.

Hope your end results are favorable, however, the butt dyno doesn't count.

Interesting that he states the comparison is done on a "not so stock engine" and "results may not be as good on a stock engine".........wonder if some apples got mixed with oranges????LOL

Do the swap. I did it and gained power (no dyno numbers but its definitely noticeable) and went from 16 to 18mpg.

Well of course... You can't increase the amount of air an engine takes in, without increasing the amount it puts out. Who is going to put a 99 intake on and stop there?

For example... I'm running a 97 with a 99 intake, neon injectors, apn header, flowmaster muffler, and an extreme 4x4 cam from comp. Next up is a port and polish on the head along with a valve job, and a big bore throttle body.

My guess is most folks never get even close to swapping the intake......they install a cone shaped air filter on a chrome tube, call it good and stop there. Hope your valve job includes larger ones......size matters.

I did the intake manifold swap on my 96 took it off an 04 grand cherokee that was being stripped for the head in the junk yard ( walked up and picked it up and walked out that easy because most people have no use for them) i gain more pep and fuel mileage plus i put an intake tube runs very well . I figure the trifecta for power air, fuel, and exhaust the more you take in the better you need to put out. Thats why i have a chevy fuel pump ford injectors spectra cold air intake kit glasspack no catalytic converters and intake manifold up grades used to get 22mpg thats with me ******* it every where with the lift and tires i do about 16
