Default Upgrading bendix 9 to modern power assist

After talking to the dealer this morning (pertaining to the bendix 9 set-up on my 89 4.0), it was evident they had no idea how this system worked (nor aware of a recall), but told me I could bring it in on tuesday for diagnostic. After reading about all the headaches associated with this system I've decided to upgrade to newer power assist brakes and by-pass the dealer recall completely. I spent the morning in the local u-pull it where I retrieved a master cyl, booster and proportioning valve (or distribution block) from a 96 Cherokee. Wasn't sure if I'd require the pedal as well, but there are 3 there to choose from later if I need one. Any good write-ups or experiences that list adapter (fitting sizes) or suggestions for making this a simple, neat installation are welcomed. I plan on documenting the swap with photos and a tutorial once I am underway for future reference.

I have just put a 90 Cherokee Laredo on the road that has this system. I will be following your thread as there is no way I am keeping this crappy brake system in my truck. My daughter will take this with her to Appalachian in the winters so I have to fix it right. I cannot believe that a convoluted brake mess like this got by all of the engineers. Of course the engineers designed it but you would think somebody would have stopped it. Had to cost more than a regular power brake system.

I would use a new master cylinder just for safety sake, you never know if some idiot put oil in that boneyard master cylinder or not.

Already there, I ordered one from Napa; figured this would make a good core as well as provide all the required little accessories necessary for the switch. It appears this will tidy up the master cylinder area nicely, as there is an abundance of extra junk taking up space where the current actuator resides.

I dont know where the writeup was but there was a way to put a grand cherokee master cylinder in a cherokee. Apparently, it was built bigger and better that the cherokee's one.
