Default UpCountry shocks ??

Ive got a '97 cherokee with the "upcountry suspention" package, and need to get a set of shocks.
Im told it's a 1 1/2" factory lift , and in quadratech's oem section it lists different shocks for the UC package.
The guy at our local off-road emporium says that any old shock will work, but a friend of mine says it wont flex as well without the longer shocks.
Any one have an "upcountry" cherokee, and dealt with this?
I dont wheel it hard, but when we do wheel, there have been times that the extra UC flex has come in mighty handy....to the point of saving it from damage or injury... (blackbear & imogene passes in silverton co.)
Long story short, i dont want to lose the flex, and want a decent shock.

any input? thanks.

Stock shocks will be fine, I dont see you extending the shocks that much with a stock cherokee

Any stock shocks should work fine. My stock LCAs would hit the bracket on the axle before the shock was fully extended. Stock XJ suspension just won't flex enough to need longer shocks.
