Default Underbody

Recently I heard a rattling underneath coming from the drivers side rear. I looked underneath and found a piece of the underbody that was over the leaf spring behind the wheel that was rotted at the brackets and was held on by hopes and dreams
Above it are the hoses coming in from the gas cap. I took what was left of it off to prevent it from breaking off and cutting the rubber hoses. I was wondering if anyone knows of a replacement piece available or if I should fabricate asomething to go there to protect those hoses.

Best bet would be to cut the rest of the rust away and get a piece of 16 gauge sheet metal to weld in place.

I'm finishing up my front floors, I'm done with the passanger side. Its pretty simple and strait forward if you've got experience with a welder.

If not, you can rivet them in place, but that tends to rust again and rot away quickly.

And try searching this forum a bit. Use the little search button at the top right of the screen. Lots of people have redone their cargo area floors, and have posted pics and plenty of information.

I am all for making stuff too mostly because the underbodies of the xjs in the jy aren't much better than mine. I just wasn't how essential that piece was

Here is a great rule of thumb, if you take it off it goes back on. No spare parts should be left when dealing with a vehicle so I say replace it some way some how

What?

Spare parts?

We're talking about body/under body sheet metal corroding and falling apart.

Sounds more like the metal piece that protects the gas lines, which is bolt on not a part of the actual floor

If its just a protective cover that may be possible.

Hell, if its floor its quite possible.

I've been driving my XJ around with no driver's floor for a few months now.

Floor pans are overrated.

They truely are.

But I'm still gonna get to mine as soon as I get my propane heater.

I never had any issues til BrutalXJ and I went off roading last Friday.

Anytime I made a left hand turn I got mud tossed in my face. There was just as much mud in the truck as there was on the outside.

Throw some floor mats in there and call it a day. jk

I still need to patch up the hole I have above the muffler. Thats the only place the body shop didnt undercoat back in '96 and the only place to rust out. For 180k miles of Michigan weather she's not bad looking. No rocker rust to speak of.
