Ummmm Front axle Hum
I dont know if its bearing on the axle or what but i hear a slide humming noise and its definitely not my muds terrains i heard it before when i had street radials.
I dont know what a bad bearing sounds like but my front axle is definitely making a noise becuase my rear axle is quiet

I'm having a similar problem. I'm pretty sure it's the bearings. I have m/t on for about 2 years and it just started, although I do have a bent drag link. I will replace the drivers side hub assembly this week and let you know. I will try to remember to take pictures for a write up.

I had the same problem. It turned out to be one of the tires up front. The size of the tire on the side wall was the same size as the other three but when we measured it it turned out to be a size smaller than the rest. Dont know how that happened but when we changed the faulty tire to the correct size the humm went away. I am not saying this is what is wrong with yours but that was my problem. I hope your problem is as simple as mine was and it doesnt end up costing you alot of money to fix. Good luck!

Different size tires on the same axle causes one axle to turn faster than the other (the one with the smaller tire). This causes permature wear on the spider gears in the differential since they really only operate when turning. Your noise could be anything from front wheel bearings, loose lug nuts, worn pinion bearings (high mileage and a leaking pinion seal is a dead giveaway for this one) or carrier bearings. You can check the pinion by grabbing it and seeing if it moves up and down. You can also see if the noise changes if you drive in 4 wheel high as the transfer case powering the front axle will change the way the gears mesh as opposed to just the forward motion turning it.

Try this. remove the front drive shaft and take it for a test drive. If its quiet ur u-joints in the drive shaft are toast. Its a easy and free test. I also would try and take a look at the axle lube if its burnt up? I upgraded to lucas diff fluid and my slight hum went away. I guess you know how loud it is, my noise was more a slight rub noise that got a little louder w/ speed.
