Spicer 297x or 760's the 760 are stronger than the 297x if that matters. from the factory they come with the 297x's

Wrong.
Older XJ's were equiped with the smaller 5-260x which were replaced by the larger 5-297x joints. You cannot put a 297 joint in an axle shaft that is sized for a 260 joint. 760's are stronger than 297's and they are interchangeable.

FWIW, all xj's that have ABS are equipped with the 297/760u-joint. All ZJs with non-CV axleshafts are setup with 297/760 joints too.

Yep..... your right I forgot about the 260 However I would run a Spicer joint over any other brand.

I have yet to have an issue with any Precision, GMB, or any other "better" u-joint. I did blow a bottom-line NAPA one in less than a rear at the axle end of my rear ds. Spicer 760s are apparently the strongest you can get for a front axle app (D30) without getting a CTM or Yukon superjoint.
