U joints
according to Orielly's,my front axle u joints are 1 size, the transfer case u joint is another size, and the rear shaft u joints are another size.Has anyone ever tried to put front axle u joints in the rear shaft,is there that much difference in the size?I was trying to keep the number of extra parts down to a minimum.Im going to my first mud run this weekend, and would like to have u joints on hand.Any help would be great, thanks guys!

If they are different sizes you can not switch them around. You can try. But you will be sorry. Just put in what they call for, why risk putting in the wrong parts when you know they are different sizes???

Driveshaft and axle ujoints cannot be interchanged. However, if you have an XJ, made in the US, all of your driveshaft ujoints should be the same size - 1310. The front and rear driveshafts use the same joints. The axle ujoints will either be 297-760 or 267, depending on what years your XJ is and whether it has ABS or not.

The part listed for "transfer case" (which means the double-cardan joint in the front shaft) can be installed in all positions in both dive shafts.
