I keep seeing people say that, but have yet to ever see a 97 with electrical problems short of power windows and locks, or hack jobs.

Age and mileage are the main factor in many of these issues. fortunately almost every problem you will encounter can be repaired easily in your own driveway, many times in just a few hours. go online by an fsm for your model year and have fun. I would be willing to bet the most of the issues encountered happened around 200,000 mile mark. you should be able to pick 1 up on the low hundred's for just a couple of 1000 dollars

ignition switches keep shorting out (the one on top of the column)
have to clean the battery terminals at least once a month
wheel on the drivers side likes being smacked with a hammer for removal
sticky or bad lifter tic tic tic
hood latch on one side works the first time sometimes
MAP sensors
bypassed my NSS a long time ago w/o issue
indecisive fuel gauge
