1988 “Renix” Cherokee.
I have always wondered what these two connectors could possible be used for. Every male connector is being used. My jeep is the “limited” trim so theoretically should have all the bells and whistles. CA smog as well.
I am chasing an intermittent miss (I think it is associated with my distributer sync not working properly or at all) I don’t believe these two connectors are the issue but I would love to know what they are for. One connects into the loom under the MAP sensor and the other connects to the loom feeding the injectors.
The first one looks to be the CPS connector. There was a TSB that bypassed the connector and C101 to wire the CPS directly into the ECU to improve the signal quality. Often, the unused connector is left dangling.
On my '88, the one coming out of the main harness in that spot is for the intake air temp (IAT) sensor. Mine only has 2 conductors though. Is your IAT connected?
That is interesting on the C101 being bypassed to go directly to the ECU.
I actually do not know where the IAT would be on this. According to my REM reader, it is pulling an IAT (from somewhere), but I don't know where the sensor lives.
The IAT is just off frame of the first pic at the back of the intake manifold near that vacuum line/port that is in view. That looks like it's pigtail immediately below your other rogue connector. On your rogue connectors, what color are the conductors? The CPS is violet and white, perhaps with a tracer, but I can't make it out on my drawing.
So the weird part is my CPS (the current one that is hooked up) is purple with a white tracer and white with a black tracer. The two mystery plugs are also purple with a white tracer and white with a black tracer.
It doesn't seem like they are still connected - at least to the ECU if they were CPS connectors. It seems you could check continuity between the violet conductors, but it's probably not necessary.
