Default Turn Signal Switch Help

So I haven't been able to get my turn signals to work ever since I bought my 93 two door, and I've found the problem at the turn signal switch. I've got every thing down to putting the new switch in but when I put the actuating arm onto the turn signal lever I only get the right signal. It won't travel down far enough to activate the left. Any help on this is appreciated.

Does the new switch match to old switch perfectly?
Just a thought, haven't researched this. But was there a choice of switches? One for with tilt and one for without tilt. Might be wrong part.

I bought an OEM replacement and matched the two. Its an exact match, and for a non-tilt column.
I did notice that the column matches my rv's almost perfectly, the only difference is the rv doesn't have the key lock that jeep ones do so maybe its a Chevy column?

Jeep did use GM columns.
I don't have much experience with the columns.
My best recommendation would be to test it outside the column to see if the part is OK. Reinstall the old part and see if the lever will go down using the old switch.
Hopefully one of the XJ experts will post the answer.

Could be the ignition switch ... seems to be the culprit in a lot of cases regarding turn signals, radio and/or wipers. Search threads on the subject if all else fails with what you're trying. I've had two XJ's and have had to replace the switch on both at some point in time.

I replaced that about an hour ago and still nothing. I think I'm gonna have to follow the wires and look for whats up. The original owners did install a tow light set up so that's been complicating everything. I think they might have wired the rear lights up wrong
