We are have removed, the engine mount, all accessories ed all the bolts from the bell housing but still can't get the engine out. It's an automatic IL6 1993 Cherokee.

Does the flywheel need to be unbolted?

It seems like it's catching up in the middle.

 

Are you sure all the bolts are out of the bellhousing? There's one up top at the 10:00 or 2:00 position (can't remember which) that is really hard to see. That could be what's holding you up.

 

Did you take the 4 bolts out that hold the flexplate to the torque converter?

easier to pull engine and tranny out as a single effort.

then separate after they are out.

but, if you are leaving transmission in (presuming its an automatic?)

you might have to wiggle the motor back and forth (sideways) to separte from transmission spline, etc.

or as previous posters say, you have some bolts still on somewhere.

Unbolt the torque converter and make sure to move the engine forward about an inch with it slightly lifted before trying to fully pull it out. You need to break the engine and trans free from the dowel pins that locate them correctly.

 

Cover on front of bellhousing?

 

Yea make sure you have bell housing cover unbolted as well. I think its a 13mm on each side at the top of the tranny. The bolt heads are facing the front of the jeep. Good Luck.

 

Thanks for the help guys. Turns out it was the flexwheel/flywheel connected to the torque converted.
