On what models and years did the tru-trac go on or was avialable.

I don't believe it was ever a stock option, it's Detroit's helical gear operated limited slip

Black's right! there was a LSD on some Cherokees but I can't say that they were ever very popular or very strong!

I think the OP was referring to the limited slip. And they came as an option on all XJ's I believe somebody correct me if im wrong.

Default trac-loc

the reason i am asking is i am buying a 1996 cherekee country mod.And when i drove the jeep in low 4-wheel WOW ! it felt like nothing could stop it. A totally different ride and feeling ,then my old96 jeep cher. 4x4

Maybe that has the Trac-loc and is a low mileage rear. Mine never had that option, but the 96 that I had had that Trac-loc and it may have been worn out b/c it wasn't a good solid lockup like a Detroit or Aussie. So I can only assume it was toast by the time I bought it with about 110,000 on the clock.
