Default Tried all day to remove fill plug on 242 tc!

I removed the drain plug in my transfer case after installing it in my cherokee it was from the junk yard and I figured it was worth looking at the fluid condition. I should have pulled the fill plug first but didn't. It wont budge tried the 30mm on a breaker bar, heat, pipe wrench, hitting it with a hammer lightly. Its not coming out... I was wondering if I knew the relative capacity could I fill it from the speedo pick-up? (after removing the housing of course)

Its like a inch or so higher. I keep looking for a capacity and it always says fill till it pours out..... I have a friend that uses that lucas trans conditioner in his 242 transfer case and he says that it made his quiet as a mouse. I'm planning on the mercon 3 is that the right idea?

OK, then fill with just shy of 3 pints of Trans fluid of your liking.

Google says it's 2.85 pints capacity.

Low Range Reduction Ratio: 2.72:1
Center Differential: Open, Planetary with low-range lock
Torque Split: F/R 48/52
Maximum Capacity Torque: 1486 lbs.-ft.
Weight: 86 Lbs.
Oil Fill Capacity: 2.85 pts.

Cool, thanks for all the additional info. I couldn't find any decent info on the 242 on the net I found a bunch for the 231. Guessing the 231 is more common or popular?

I had a 242 and I took care of it and wasn't to bad on it. I changed the fluid every 6 months and one day I locked it in 4x4H and out of nowhere a LOUD clanking and my front tires locked up... Chain snapped and bound up my gears. SO i did some research and swapped to a NP231 and it works so much better without any prob.
My 242 worked for a while but the chain is really long and can't take to much abuse offroad.

This guy from a repair place near my house has a h1 and he says that his transfer case is a 242 also? I'm guessing its a slightly different transfer case?

242 in a Hummer is the same as the Jeep. Spline count on the input/output might be diferent.
