Default Transmission trouble

I have a 98 Cherokee with an AW-4 transmission.

Today, I had to go into town to pick up some things. Did fine on the ride there. Upon cranking the truck in the parking lot, the check engine light came on. On the ride home, transmission wouldn't shift into overdrive. Hooked it up to one of the code readers you get at Auto Zone or any other parts place and got codes P700 and P705.

Any ideas? Is it the solenoid? Heard they can give some trouble every once in a while. It says the TCU but idk...any help would be great!

Thanks

Check your tranny fluid first. If it is up where it should be, next I would check the Neutral Safety Switch (NSS). Did the cel throw the truck into limp mode? Also, the P700 is a generic code. If it persists, you might want to go to the dealer to have them scan it to read the actual transmission codes.

I haven't checked the fluid, which I will do first thing in the morning...and for the post below...I haven't changed it either. I checked it before we made a trip to the mountains and topped it off...it was bright red and looking fine so I didn't think anything of it.

What do you mean by "did the cel throw the truck into limp mode"?

Thanks
