Default Transmission Switch????

Ok there is a switch on the dash for the transmission, what does this do? Mine doesn't do anything, doesn't light up, nothing.

Check to see if the 7.5 amp "trans" fuse is blown in the fusebox.

The trans had 2 modes. Power and Comfort. They eliminated the switch after 91 or so and left it defaulted in the Power mode. Comfort shifts up too soon. Power is where you want it. The switches tended to short out taking the reverse lights with it via the above mentioned fuse. Here's how to eliminate that switch if that's the case.

Bypassing the Power/Comfort Switch

Remove and unplug the switch. In the harness are 3 wires One has a stripe, one is tan, and the other black. Make a 4" jumper wire with a male spade at each end. Plug one end in the cavity for the tan wire and the other in the cavity for the striped wire and you'll be in permanent Power mode. Stuff the harness back in and reinstall the switch for looks.

Also, the switch may be working, while the light has burnt out. Just continuity test the switch and see if its properly switching poles.

If the fuse is good, chances are the switch might be okay. They're such a flimsy POS, I just bypass them.

So why is your hazard flasher blinking on and off? Also did you remove your chime dealie? I was looking at this today, so I saw the 7.5A fuse, I'll check it tomorrow. I can't wait to get my orings so I can drive it again, also vacuum harness will be here this week.

The fuse was good, I pulled the dash apart and installed the jumper. On a side note, I have a factory clock, didn't think it was working, pulled the bulb out of the back, put a different one in an voila, it works!!

Err, I'm not sure why a 5-Speed would even have that switch.
