Cool Transmission Stack ****fts.

I just bought a 96 XJ 4wd, great jeep, but it shifts 1-2-3 OD before you even hit 40 MPH. Killing my mileage, and it kinda slows it down going onto the on ramps and such...
Any nideas?

Thanks in advance

Steve

Reset the computer, you can search for the procedure. Also you can adjust the kickdown cable which will help. A big thing is the computer cause it will learn how you drive and either hold gears or shift faster depending on what you do

Ok, if you can search exactly how to adjust it, its been a while since ive done it cause I drive a manual. But the basic procedure is push down on the button where all the cables are attached to a bracket on the intake, have a person push the gas peddle to the floor, then release the kickdown button. The cable can stretch over time causing misalignment or the previous person did this wrong.

DO NOT open the throttle body at the engine to this adjustment cause the gas pedal may not move the throttle as much as you can in the engine bay.

Your welcome Steve (hehe my name too)

I had the same issue recently. Replacing the throttle position sensor fixed it. I was lucky enough that mine generated an ODB code, but in my research I've found that it will not always generate a code right away. I believe you can test the voltage on the sensor, but I have never done it myself.

Smile Excellet guys

I actually removed the cable from the bracket, to give it more " throw if you will ' It helped on the 1-2 upshift, but the 2-3 was still really fast. and no kickdown while moving at 45-55 MPH, my TPS sticks sometimes, so that has to be it. Thanx tons guys
