Default Transmission Seal

First off I have a 1999 jeep Cherokee with a AW4 transmission. The problem is that the front seal is bad and i have a few questions before i get it replaced. About how much would it cost to have the front seal replaced? Is there anything else that should be replaced at the same time? And would it be worth paying more just to have the whole transmission replaced? Thanks in advance.

Depends on what exactly is leaking, hard to say without dropping the trans and taking a look. You may find the torque converter snout has a groove worn in it, worn bushing, bad pump housing seal (big o-ring around the edge)..
None of it is expensive or difficult to get at, hardest part is dropping the transmission to get access. If the trans is otherwise good, no sense in replacing the whole thing.

Are you sure it's trans fluid leaking?

Yes it leaking trans fluid. It leaks so fast that I cant drive it. It is the original trans and has 170k miles on it so I was thinking if I was already going to have to have it dropped i might as well save some time and money later and just get the whole thing rebuilt.

That transmission should last well into the 250K range or beyond, if the leak is the only problem, I'd fix that and call it good.
