first time i did a trans those 2 bolts on top i thought were 12 points, i just took it out with a 10mm socket, luckily mine came out(almost rounded them off though), i replaced em with #8 bolts with standard 6pt heads to make it easier next time. but definitely get the torx socket, i would have if i'd known last time

im just trying to find out how to get the shift linkages off the tranny and transfer case cause im pooring out transmission fluid and think its a seal

Hi all..new to forum...I have a 99 cherokee 4x4 4.0 liter.. Is easier to remove tranny by itself or with the transfer attached? Please help

those are the 2 bolts mentioned above. they are reverse torx or inverted torx.
it's actually an E14. and no, a 12 point will not fit or work.

use about 3 feet of extensions with a wobbler and a ratchet. otherwise, good luck.
Just removed these on my AX 15 (VM diesel motor - I'm in Australia). They are definitely E12. Also, I found it easier to pull the centre console and pull the gear lever from inside, then go through the hole and remove the eTorx bolts from the inside. Two people makes it easier, one lining the socket up, the other leaning on the ratchet handle.
