Default It depends.

It depends on what you mean by used and what your dad means by new. If he means new out of the box Daimler Chrysler transmission ,that will cost several thousand dollars manual or automatic,if they even still have any for your year in stock. If he means remanufactured then the price difference between auto and manual swings in favor of the automatic. The quality depends on the factory where the work was done. If by used you mean a transmission from a junk yard ,why is that car there? Was it T boned, causing hidden driveline damage? Did it suffer a transmission failure? Is it just old and worn out? If you mean refurbished then once again the automatic is the price leader.Quality depends on the shop that is doing the work. I know that this is not very specific but I think and hope you will find it useful. Good luck.

Used transmissons are a crap-shoot. I got a trans from a salvage yard that warranties they're parts for 30 days. That way at least you know it isn't a pos. And if it tanks right after installing it you can get your money back. Do some searching online. Ther's alot of guys parting out Cherokees. You could probly buy 2 or 3 used transmisions for the price of one reman or a rebuild at a shop.

Hi zt cherokee. I think you should get a new one instead of a used one because you can sure to the new one rather than to the used one.
